Region A
Port – Red Starboard – Green
Region A includes Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, The gulf and most of the Asian countries except listed in Region B
The approach direction is normally taken as “local direction of buoyage”. However, the direction are marked on navigational chart.
Region B
Port – Green Starboard – Red
Region B includes North, Central and South America, Japan, North & South Korea and the Philippines.
(i) Occulting :- Total duration of light is longer than total duration of darkness.
(ii) Isophase:- Duration of light and darkness are equal.
(iii) Flashing:- Total duration of light is shorter than total duration of darkness.
(iv) Quick Flashing:- 50 or 60 flashes per minute.
(v) Very Quick Flashing:- 100 or 120 flashes per minute.
(vi) Ultra Quick Flashes:- 240 to 300 flashes per minute.
(i) Lateral mark:- It is used for well defined channel to indicate port and starboard side of the route to be followed.
(ii) Cardinal mark:- It is used to indicate where the mariner will find the best navigable water. They are placed in one of the four quadrant.
(iii) Isolated danger mark:- It is used to indicate any shoal,rock etc. which are dangerous to navigation & which have navigable water all around them.
(iv) Safe water mark:- It is used to indicate that there is navigable water all around the mark.
(v) Special mark:- It is used to indicate some special area or feature like ODAS buoy.
(vi) Emergency wreck marking buoy:- It is used to indicate new hazards not yet shown in nautical documents. New dangers include naturally occurring features such as newly created or moved sandbanks and newly discovered rocks and manmade dangers such as wrecks.
The Emergency Wreck Marking Buoy may be fitted with a racon Morse Code “D” and any AIS transceiver.
